All 5Cs Place in the Top 25 “Happiest Campuses”

The Daily Beast, an online news source, named Claremont McKenna College number one on its list of the “100 Happiest Campuses.”

Using statistics collected from U.S. News & World Report and College Prowler, the Daily Beast ranked CMC, Pomona, Harvey Mudd, Scripps, and Pitzer among the 22 happiest campuses in the country.

The colleges were ranked based on nightlife, campus housing, campus dining, retention rate, percentage of the year that is sunny, and average debt accumulated by graduation.

However, Will Rossiter CM ’10 and Mike West CM ’10 said these are not the only criteria that make CMC’s campus the happiest in the country.

“The school really incorporates the students into all the decision-making processes as far as where funds go for parties—both dry and not,” Rossiter said.

West added that the interactions between the students and the faculty are easy even when parties are not involved.

“The whole faculty is geared to come to us and help us no matter what your situation is like,” West said. “You’re not afraid to go to the dean’s office.”

Rossiter also said that CMC is a very supportive school.

“They’ll fund many student initiatives,” he said. “I wanted to go skiing a few weeks ago and was written a check that covered my expenses for the trip.”

Pomona placed third in the rankings, bested only by CMC and Harvard University. Harvey Mudd was fifth, Scripps sixth, and Pitzer came in at number 22.
