Women's Soccer Plagued by Injury

The Pomona-Pitzer women’s soccer team has started the season off with an extremely large number of injuries. In fact, they may actually be beating out cross country, typically the most injury-prone sport.

The team now has nine injured players, with two still recovering from injuries sustained last year. ACL, quad, and groin injuries are the most prevalent, although hips, glutes, and ankles are also in danger.

“They’re plaguing our team,” said Charlotte Fisken PO ‘14. “We’re at our injury quota.”

At the moment, many of the injured players are still playing. If this pattern of self-destruction continues, the Sagehens are simply going to have to tough it out.

Emma Wolfarth PO ’14, a goalkeeper on the bench with a possible torn meniscus, bravely claimed that it “adds to the mental aspect of the game, because so few of us are healthy.”

Most of the injured players are freshmen and sophomores. “The freshmen are all pretty bad-ass,” Emily Hayes PO ‘14 said.

Despite the plethora of sidelined Sagehens, the team still has to take the field. P-P took on Occidental College Sept. 25, but fell by a score of 2-0. Both goals came in the first half, and the undermanned squad could not rebound to tie the score.

The Sagehens’ next game is tomorrow at 1 p.m., as CMS will travel south of Sixth Street to take on P-P on our home turf. The rivalry has ignited the girl’s soccer team, further increasing their determination to play through injuries. Come watch as our our heroic Hens take on the Athenas.

“It’s gonna be a huge game,” Wolfarth promised.
